Transparency in how we build, what we use, and how we protect your data

What Open Source Security Is

Open Source Security, Inc. does not sell proprietary software. OSS is a consultation company that designs, configures, and supports security systems for home networks.

SecureNet is a complete security stack combining open-source software, specific hardware, and professional configuration delivered as a service. The value is in the integration, expertise, and ongoing support, not software ownership.

Relationship to Open Source Projects

SecureNet does not modify, fork, or redistribute OPNsense source code. It applies configuration, integration, and deployment practices to an unmodified OPNsense installation as part of the SecureNet security system.

We are users and supporters of open-source software, not maintainers or distributors. All upstream projects retain full ownership and control of their code. All configurations use standard OPNsense® tools and interfaces.

Open Source Foundation

SecureNet is built on OPNsense, a widely used open-source firewall platform.

Additional Open Source Components

SecureNet integrates the following open-source projects:

FreeBSD Operating system foundation (BSD License) freebsd.org →
Suricata Intrusion detection/prevention (GPLv2, unmodified upstream) suricata.io →
Unbound DNS resolver with DNSSEC (BSD License) nlnetlabs.nl →
WireGuard Modern VPN protocol (GPLv2) wireguard.com →

We are grateful to the developers and communities behind these projects. OSS does not redistribute modified binaries of these components.

Hardware Partners

SecureNet is designed and tested primarily on Protectli fanless Vault hardware.

Protectli Logo

Protectli Vaults feature coreboot open-source firmware, creating a fully transparent security stack from boot firmware through VPN tunnel.
Hardware warranty and support provided by Protectli (2 years).

Customer Data & Privacy

Open Source Security, Inc. is built so we don't need personally identifiable information to operate. No real name required. No verified address. No card details. Most data a customer might assume we have actually lives at Stripe (for payments) or Protectli (for hardware). Here's the full map.

What we have

•An email address for scheduling and service communications (aliases like Apple Hide My Email or any forwarder work fine)
•A WireGuard public key and tunnel IP for OSS Members (this is what we use to identify your account, not a name)
•A name if you choose to provide one (a pseudonym is fine, we don't verify)
•Support-related technical context you voluntarily share with us in tickets

What nobody has

•Browsing history (no DNS or traffic logging)
•DNS queries (logging disabled in Unbound)
•Network traffic content (no payload inspection)
•A real name we've verified (we don't check)

Where the rest lives

What Stripe has, not us

•Card details, billing address, real name on file
•Payment history and renewal data
•We see "this peer is paid up." We never see your card or billing info.

What Protectli has, not us

•Hardware purchase records and warranty status
•Shipping address from your order

If you're out of warranty (two-plus years post-purchase) and need hardware support, we ask when you bought the Vault and route you to Protectli. We don't need your name to do it.

SafeNet VPN Privacy

•Zero logging of DNS queries
•Zero logging of websites visited
•No payload inspection or content logging is performed
•Connection metadata (tunnel IP, bandwidth totals) retained for billing and capacity planning only

Full technical details available in our AI Whitepaper.
